Flutist Jessi Rosinski has been described as possessing “virtuoso execution and robust tone quality” in New Music Connoisseur and was recently awarded a 2007 Emerging Artist Award from the St. Botolph Club. Jessi freelances actively throughout the Boston area in a variety of chamber ensembles and local orchestras. She has appeared with groups such as Collage New Music, Boston Musica Viva, Firebird Ensemble, Notariotous, and Harvard Group for New Music. Ms. Rosinski is the flutist of Boston’s Callithumpian Consort and White Rabbit, the resident new music ensemble at Harvard. She is an associate with the Atlantic Symphony for the 2007-08 season and a regular sub with the United States Coast Guard Band. She has collaborated with the Emerson String Quartet, Hartt Percussion Ensemble, and The BSC electro-acoustic octet and has worked with prominent composers such as Jennifer Higdon, Richard Rodney Bennett, John Harbison, John Luther Adams, and Christian Wolff. An avid teacher, Jessi holds faculty positions at University of Massachusetts, Boston and the Winchester Community Music School. She also currently enjoys a substitute teaching position at the Milton Academy. She has twice been a guest tutor at the Stratford-upon-Avon International Flute Festival and teaches privately throughout Boston. In the past, Jessi has held teaching positions teaching flute and chamber music at The Hartt School Community Division and The University of Connecticut Continuing Studies Division. Jessi earned a Bachelor of Music degree, summa cum laude from The Hartt School as a fellow of the Performance 20/20 Program and a Master of Music degree with honors from New England Conservatory where she was awarded the 2006 John Cage Award for Outstanding Contribution to Contemporary Music Performance. She has held fellowships at the Norfolk Chamber Music Festival, National Symphony Orchestra/Kennedy Center Summer Institute, and Stratford International Flute Festival as well as participated in the Bowdoin Chamber Music Festival, and Now & Present Flute Seminar. Her principal teachers include Laura Gilbert, John Wion, Fenwick Smith, Renee Krimsier and Barbara Hopkins. Ms. Rosinski’s writing has been published several times by the National Flute Association Flutist Quarterly, and her playing can be heard on Mode and Capstone Records. Her outside interests include eating ice cream, drinking tea, jogging, practicing yoga, watching the Red Sox, and exploring Boston.
Jessi Rosinski has won top prizes at several prominent competitions including the Pappoutsakis Memorial Competition, New York Flute Club Young Artist Competition, and the National Flute Association Masterclass Competition. Additionally, she was runner-up at the 2005 Albert Cooper International Flute Competition; the honor included a return to England to present a solo recital at the 2006 Albert Cooper Competition and teaching at the Stratford-upon-Avon International Flute Festival. Jessi was honored to be named the 2006 New Horizon’s Artist by the Greater Boston Flute Association.
Committed to bringing music to new audiences, Ms. Rosinski has played in venues ranging from rural churches in England to inner city classrooms in Boston, hospice facilities, dinner parties hosted by the Boston Red Sox, and as a performer in an improvised toy piano concerto. She also presents Music for Dancers workshops, which is an effort that combines her music with her past classical ballet training. She was recently chosen to perform music from the flute collection of Henry David Thoreau for the reunion in death of American writer Nathaniel Hawthorne, his wife Sophia and their daughter Una. Her current outreach activities include collaborating with fellow NEC alumni for a series of musical education workshops at The Home for Little Wanderers.
